Gary Vaynerchuk CRUSH IT

Gary Vaynerchuk â€" CRUSH IT I retired the Personal Branding Award series a few months ago and said I was going to start a new series. well, this is it.   I want to interview people who are doing something DIFFERENT. There is an irony I live with every day.   Some people think I am hear to help you land your next gig to find your dream job. You see, I personally dont think a dream job exists not in the way it did a few decades ago.   Even if you find the dream job you might not have it after 6 months or 6 years. You are always in transition, always a job seeker, and thus, always CEO of Me, Inc. Part of that, as Ive mentioned before, is to figure out personal income security. Thats what this series is about thinking outside the box of Im getting my dream job soon! to I think there are other ways to crack this (income security) nut! Welcome the first person in the series Gary Vaynerchuk (aka, GaryVee). Gary is beyond a rockstar, although hell deny it.   His energy makes me think all Im suited for is a government job but he claims it   is not the craziness or energy that makes you WIN.   No, not win, that makes you CRUSH IT! Crush it is the name of his new book, which should start shipping today. I interviewed Gary for about 45 minutes, you can listen on the BlogTalkRadio channel.   Lots of gems to apply to your own career here. And check out his book Crush It its less than $15 at Amazon.   Ive got mine in the mail and Im anxious to get into it! Writing a Summary For a Resume - A Simple Approach

Writing a Summary For a Resume - A Simple ApproachWriting a summary for a resume is an important step in international shipping. The export business involves traveling internationally, so it is necessary to have a summary for your resume, which covers the history of the company and what it has done in the past to help you get a good paying job. It is a good idea to write a summary for a resume for companies that are exporting, even if they don't specialize in the kind of shipping involved. The key to writing a summary for a resume is to make it as clear and concise as possible. Many people find it difficult to write about themselves, so it can be easier to start with a profile of yourself and work backwards from there. If you are applying for a job with an international shipping company, you should start by listing the names of all the offices and addresses of all the companies you have worked for before. In addition, list all the different jobs you have held, how long you worked for each one, and what position you held at each one.Writing a summary for a resume also needs to include a discussion of the experience you have had with a company, and this can be broken down into the type of work you did for each company. The following example would be accurate for a shipping company that primarily did ocean-going ships. It would also be accurate for a company that primarily did bulk-buying from manufacturers. Each of these companies require different skill sets, so it is important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are so you can focus on these. In general, there are three main skills involved in international shipping: engineering, quality control, and working with government agencies. Having these skills will allow you to make sure that your shipments meet the specifications set forth by both the government and the manufacturer. In order to summarize the information in your resume effectively, you should highlight the particular part that relates to your qua lifications for the position you are seeking. This will be different for every company, but it is important to be as specific as possible in this area. The only way you can explain in a summary for a resume what a particular position entails is if you can point to specific examples of things you have done in that position. When you begin to write a summary for a resume, it is important to be concise. Keep your language simple. Make sure you include the most important information that relates to the job. You should also keep your writing balanced and do not get lost in details that are not necessary. When writing a summary for a resume, it is important to do it well. Writing in this manner will show the interviewer that you put effort into this. This will also make you look more professional, and you should therefore avoid using hand written handwriting to do this. You can also create a resume that you can distribute to potential employers, but it is also good to have a prepared versio n that you can send to them. When you are preparing a summary for a resume, you should spend some time thinking about what exactly you want to write about. If you are looking for a position with a large international shipping company, you may find it easier to talk to other companies that you have worked with in the past or use company resources to help you. It is also helpful to make a checklist of the things you want to include in your summary for a resume.

How to Monetize Your Blog

How to Monetize Your Blog This is the fifth post in a series of 5 posts about blogging:  why to start,  how to start, how to get readers, how to build community and how to monetize your blog. There are so many ways to monetize a blog these days.  The catch is that most of these ways require a LOT of traffic.  More importantly, you need a  fiercely  loyal fan base and a very niche topic too. In addition, you may have to invest some money customizing your site and having a professional make it look pretty.  Advertisers (and even some of your readers) will have expectations about your sites looks and the value they want it to deliver if youre going to have advertisements up there. Credibility is huge if you want to get paid people! Beware: some readers will stop visiting your site or start to make snide remarks once you start to monetize.  This is the strangest thing to me considering that when you keep a blog that is 100% ad-free, theyre your biggest fans.  We all have to eat, right?!  Ask any blogger, this scenario is unfortunately a true story.  Therefore, if youre new blogger who is writing with the intention of monetizing, you may want to carefully consider how, when and why you are monetizing your site.  Some people have better luck with advertising/monetizing right from the start.  Others do better with building trust and credibility for a few years before monetizing. Here are 11 ways people make money online and a real example of each method. 1. Information Products: e-books, coaching and/or how to videos. Info products are the easiest and quickest way to make money online.  If you know more about a topic than the average bear, you can package your information and sell it.  Creating an e-book is a great way to test this out.  You can even recruit others to contribute to your e-book.  Jairek Robbins, the son of world-famous Olympian and motivational speaker Tony Robbins, has some great information products out there.  I even own a few of his pre-recorded coaching programs. 2. Membership Site/Group: a site that provides  premium  content for a periodic membership fee.  Most membership sites include coaching, discussion forums, how-to videos, expert advice, social networks and/or premium articles. Pam Slims  Escape Cubicle Nation  Community 3. Public Speaking:  Tony Robbins Like I mentioned above, Tony Robbins is the man.  He is also a very unusually successful public speaker so dont assume you can go from blogger to millionaire in a few years.  It may take decades.  For more advice on how to build a career as a public speaker, check out Jane Atkinsons blog, books and Wealthy Speaker System. 4. Event Host: Hosting networking or niche Meetups events can be a fun way to make some money around the topic of your blog. A great example of someone who is rocking in this space is Bump Club Chicago.  They hold luncheons, classes and social events for pregnant women and new Moms.  You can charge a ticket price, get some gift bag donors, food/alcohol sponsors and there you have it- revenue! 5. Online Brand Rep: This model is somewhat of a celebrity revenue model.  If brands and companies think youre influential enough, theyll pay you decent money to host Twitter parties, write sponsored blog posts on your blog, be a featured guest blogger on their blog, Tweet, run contests online and give out coupon codes to your following.  Basically youre like a real-life human endorser for their brand and products. Im an example of a real-life (non-celeb) blogger who has done paid brand repping.  Ive done this type of work and earned a free lap top, free designer clothes and cash!  This role can come in the form of sponsored blog posts (with a few relevant links somewhere within the posts) and hosting Twitter chats too.  Lots of Mommy Bloggers make a big living doing this since companies love reaching Moms whoa re typically the shoppers and household decision makers. Note: I only rep brands products I personally love and would personally buy with my own money. If I cant honestly suggest it to a friend or reader, I refuse the opportunity regardless of how much it pays. 6.  Dedicated Emails: niche-topic email newsletters that are typically sponsored or include affiliate links (see # 14). Daily Candy Daily Worth are amazing examples of dedicated emails. Daily Candy sends an email out daily about a cool store, salon, product or service in your area.  Businesses wait months to get on these emails because they go out to a very targeted audience.  This company makes a killing by promoting companies in a fun and somewhat disguised way to an trend-seeking audience.  Daily Worth is newer on the scene and sends a short (and surprisingly fun entertaining) daily email on the topic of personal finance. They make money because each email is sponsored by a credit card, credit score or financial management company. Tip: In any online business, your email list is your most valuable asset, so the earlier you start to build it, the better.  Even more bonus points if you collect demographic info. 7. Online Advertising: Banner Ads, Text Link Ads, Advertising networks Honestly, this is what most people assume earns bloggers online businesses the most money but its quite the opposite.  I wouldnt bank on this method to pay your bills but I still need to mention it. Although over time you can earn steady cash from advertising, it may take years to buy more than a few cocktails with ad money.  Plus, no one likes a cluttered and banner-ad riddled site.  Im not going to bother giving you real life examples of this one because weve all seen banner ads.  My guess is that if youve seen a lot of banner or text ads, you arent a huge fan of the site anyways. 8. Coaching:    If you write about a specialized topic and want to earn money by helping others, this method might be for you.  Although there is no legal requirement to become a certified coach, it is a good idea in many cases. One of my favorite coaches who is truly earning her living thanks to her online presence is Michelle Ward, aka the When I Grow Up Coach.  Michelle is a career coach who specializes in helping those who are in creative fields. She offers a free session to new clients in addition to workbooks, workshops, e-courses and she even does paid speaking. 9. Productizing  Bethenny Frankel is no doubt the queen of this monetization method!  Bethennys mission is to democratize healthy living. Most of us know Bethenny for her Skinny Girl Margaritas (she now has Skinny Girl sangria and White Cosmos too!) but did you know she also has shape wear, a cleanse program, personal training package,  books, yoga DVDs and more?  Bethenny has taken a simple niche mission statement and created products around it.  Being on a reality TV show was likely what fueled her business success. 10. Lead Generation  This method is especially popular for programs advertising going back to school for some type of  specialty, career certification or graduate programs.  In addition, insurance companies, credit card companies and credit score websites use CPL to pay bloggers and website owners each time someone fills out a form and submits for information. 11. Affiliate Marketing is simply the art of getting paid a percentage of sales each time something is purchased via a link found on your website.  In other words, you place a link on your site that has a special code in it that is linked to you, and the retailer tracks click  through  and purchases.  You get a percentage of sales or flat commission each time something is purchased.  Some bloggers make a TON of money through affiliate marketing.  Be sure to carefully consider what you write about if this is something you are considering.  Generally, technology review sites make the most with affiliate marketing.  Other high-paying niches include writing about how to make money.  Note: some states have strict laws about affiliate marketing.  Check out sites like Commission Junction to find great products you can sell as an affiliate. Check out John Chow, ProBlogger or Copyblogger for examples of people who are making a killing through affiliate marketing.  In addition, they also happen to teach people about making tons of money which is ironic.  How else do you see people making money online?  How do YOU make money online?  Wed all love to know any tips or secrets you have!

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How to Survive in the Digital Age

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese How to Survive in the Digital Age Companies with leadership that is determined to do business the way its been done for the last several decades and focus only on selling more products to customers may be destined to fail. Thats because the traditional focus doesnt take into account the new way that value now is being created through networks of customers, employees and business partners. Thats the assertion of a new book, The Network Imperative: How to Survive and Grow in the Age of Digital Business Models. One of the problems in the failure of companies to make thistransitionis that theres a pretty significant skills gap among leadership teams, says Megan Beck, co-author with Barry Libert and Jerry Wind. These leaders are often older and have a really strong skill set, but in a completely different place. They may not be savvy with the right technology, they may not be following the very bleeding edge of their industry. And then theres the mental piece theres just sort of a gap in observation, Beck says. Unfortunately for some companies, that lack of awareness of the critical importance of digital is a blind spot that may not be easily remedied. I dont think its fear thats holding some leaders back from making the transition I think its a bit of overconfidence, Beck says. These are leaders who have been very successful in the past, and its hard for people to believe that the skill sets theyve had for the last 20 years are not going to provide the results they need. Theres a lack of savvy, she says. They think that it (digital) is a flash in the pan. Beck says that because of those mindsets and the fact thatdigital transformationsare a big undertaking, many companies will fail as a result. That doesnt mean you shouldnt try, she says. For many companies, it means refocusing(read more here)

How to Write a Resume Objective That Will Get You Into Your Dream Job

How to Write a Resume Objective That Will Get You Into Your Dream JobLearning how to write a resume objective is extremely important in helping you get into any type of job. Writing a resume objective is extremely important to getting the job that you want. In this article I will show you what to include on your resume objective and why you should be careful not to omit it at all.To be honest, not knowing how to write a resume objective can get you into trouble. You may not know that this is a part of the resume that is used by recruiters and interviewers when they are checking out your skills. They will look at your resume objective and see how you were able to clearly explain what you have to offer a particular position. They will also look at it in the same light and see if you match up with their own goals and objectives for the company. In most cases, companies will provide sample resumes for individuals to review. These sample resumes usually include a resume objective. In fact, many companies will give these samples to their applicants to help them get started in their job search. This is a great idea as a sample that will give you a chance to see what your resume should look like before you submit it.It is a good idea to use the sample at least twice. At first glance, the sample will look pretty good. However, if you then read the entire resume then you will be able to see if it matches up with your resume objectives. This is a great way to find problems and then correct them before sending your resume. When writing a resume objective, it is always important to make sure that it clearly describes what you can do for the company. You should always be able to explain why you are qualified for the position that you are applying for. It is also a good idea to keep in mind that your objective should be used as a selling point for your resume. You want to use the example that was given by the recruiter or a sample resume to get you started, but you also want to use it to highlight your strengths and explain why you are better than the other candidates.Another important thing to remember is that your objective is more than just a simple description of your skills. It is also a way to highlight and explain why you are better than others for the position. Make sure that you know exactly what you want to say so that you can focus on the information that you need to present to an employer.Writing a resume objective is not difficult to do. You should simply make sure that you use the examples provided by the company that you are submitting to. It will also be helpful to take a few minutes and get some practice writing one. It will help you become more comfortable with the process and with how to properly format your resume.Remember that there are many positions that are available in the job market today. You must make sure that you are not over exaggerating your abilities or under-promising. While it is very important to be realistic, the objec tive should be a very clear and concise description of how you can help the company in order to get the job that you want.

Unemployed Keep Your Competitive Edge While Out of Work - Pathfinder Careers

Unemployed Keep Your Competitive Edge While Out of Work - Pathfinder Careers Unemployed? Keep Your Competitive Edge While Out of Work Many of my clients are currently employed, while others are out of work as a result of lay-offs, company closures or cutbacks. Those that have lost their job have told me that they are constantly worrying how they can keep themselves viable as a candidate, while continuing to search for a job. I have some simple and straight-forward steps that you can take to keep your ‘toe in the pool’ and make yourself not only a highly-relevant but also keenly-competitive candidate: 1) Education Did you want to obtain a particular degree that is common in your field, but never had the time to finish or even start? Now is a good time to invest in yourself and take advantage of your schedule flexibility to start coursework. It could make the difference later on down the line as many human resource and hiring managers evaluate education levels on resumes as part of their screening processes. 2) Professional Development Examine industry organizations offering up educational seminars, sessions, workshops, trainings, conferences, conventions, certifications and continuing education units. Show prospective employers that you didnt sit around waiting for moss to grow. Instead, you focused your time between jobs by gaining industry-specific knowledge to keep you current on sector trends. This can go a long way towards enhancing your candidate profile. The whole purpose of professional development is to tell employers that you are a continual learner who is taking active steps to hone your knowledge and stay abreast of current trends. 3) Industry Affiliations Memberships with professional organizations or trade associations that are relevant to your career search area can also enhance your image, help you gain valuable networking contacts, and provide industry-specific educational opportunities. Membership fees may seem steep, but the access they provide could prove fruitful. 4) Volunteer Volunteering wins hands-down as the easiest (and most fun) way to build credibility, current experience and skills. By volunteering, you can learn new things, gain new skills, add current experience to your resume, meet new people, become a known quantity, and even learn of job openings before they are posted because you’ll have an inside track as part of the organization. But the best part is this: by volunteering and engaging in altruistic behavior, this triggers the release of endorphins, which are the feel-good chemicals that can boost your mood. Being out of work can be tremendously discouraging; having an activity that is fun and makes you feel good too can be exactly the thing you need to get yourself into a proactive, positive job search mindset. Finally, volunteer also sends a subliminal message to an employer: You arent going to just show up and push papers around your desk from 8am-5pm; you are an active and engaged person. You are not only a good company citizen, but you are also a good community citizen. By virtue of your involvement in the community, undoubtedly, the company reaps benefit from your volunteering with a positive grassroots community plug! It also shows that you have initiative! 5) Read as Much as You Can Get online or go to the library, and voraciously consume any news and trend information you can find in your target career area. You’ll come across well-read, knowledgeable and resourceful to prospective employers when in an interview, or writing a cover letter. An added benefit is that you will also have a lot draw from when meeting people at networking events. You’ll be guaranteed to impress!

Wikimania - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

Wikimania - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog The Wikimania conference is the international conference of the Wikimedia foundation. The 2006 iteration is August 4-6 in Cambridge Ma., and theyre currently calling for papers and topics (the deadline is March 30). One of my current pet projects is a fundamental rethinking of the way democracy is practiced. A shift from the current top-down political process to one that directly involves large numbers of people bottom-up. I wrote about it here, and theres a website in Danish about it. The fundamental meeting place of this party would be a Wiki. This is where policies would be suggested, examined, improved and voted on. I would LOVE to present this idea at the conference, so I submitted the following abstract: The political process in most modern nations suffers from a number of problems including: General mistrust of politicians Disengagement and disillusionment by most citizens Low voter turnout Basically, a small group formulate policies and the vast majority of people get to vote every few years. The solution is to reshape the political process to allow many more people to participate actively in formulating the policies. This can be done by creating new political parties where the fundamental meeting place is a Wiki, where issues are proposed, examined and decided upon bottom-up involving large number of people. Wikipedia already demonstrates how a community can come to decisions on complex and emotionally engaging topics. This session lays out a specific plan for a wiki-based political party including: Whats wrong with politics today The technologies and principles involved in the wiki-based party Advantages of the wiki-based party How to implement it Case studies from nations and communities who practice similar approaches I would sure love a trip to the US in August to present the idea of the wiki-based party. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles.
